 FAQs

  • Come to us with your timber frame build ideas and any designs you may have. We can talk through it all, and factor in your budget and overall goals.

Once the design stages are underway, we’ll walk you through the progress and provide a set of initial 2D sign off drawings to ensure everything is exactly as expected.

We’ll model every structural component within the build, which will be shared with you along the way.

Then, a final 3D model of the end product and all of its components will be provided. A magical stage where the frame is laid bare, you’ll get a true picture of how the building works in all its glory. Any final tweaks can be made before we sign off and proceed to final outputs.

We want to make working with us a breeze, so you will be guided through all stages of the design and modelling, to ensure everyone is in the picture and importantly, you get to have your say.

  • It doesn’t. Obviously budget on a very small scale project may come into play, but we’re willing to look and advise at any scale. Sometimes it can be the smallest of projects that really benefit from an additional eye and 3 dimensional foresight.

In short, we’re just as passionate and focused on working on a small garden room or porch, as we are developing a new build country retreat or innovative timber frame housing development for that matter.

  • No!

Timber framed buildings have come along way since their medieval counterparts. There is a plethora of methodologies that typically fit into a desired aesthetic, thermal standard, or local vernacular.

Put short, a modern timber frame building often looks anything but. If you were so inclined for instance; you could make a timber frame building look like a concrete monolith, strange may it sound - there’s bound to be one out there!

The world is your oyster when choosing timber for your project, we truly believe it is the most versatile, economical, beautiful and sustainable way to build.

We are more than happy to advise which framing or material discipline would be best for your project. We’re well versed in most construction disciplines; traditional Green Oak framing, Softwood/Stick Framing, Passivhaus, SIPs, Hybrid, Engineered timber (I-beam), Glulam, and even steel where required.

  • Timber certainly has to be up there as one of (if not the most) sustainable construction formats out there.

Managed properly, timber can be a truly sustainable and renewable material. It acts as a bit of a carbon sink, soaking up all these naughty carbons that folks keep banging on about and locking them away until of course someone decides it becomes fuel for the fire. Sustainability is a complex and ever changing subject, and one that we’re always looking at and considering how to better our ways.

At OSOTIMBER we believe that we should all be building beautiful, individual buildings and surrounding ourselves with natural, sustainable materials. Timber tends to tick most, if not all of the boxes from our perspective.

  • Timber lends itself to most formats. You may have an architect led project, or you may indeed be an architect. You may have a design that has been conceptualised and gone through planning as a conventional brick and block build. This isn’t an issue, we can work with these agreed plans but revise the detailing and outlay to conform to a pre-agreed timber framing discipline that suits the project and goals.

There are so many reasons to build with timber. It’s lightweight, can be pre-manufactured, panellised, stick built, it’s cost effective, waste effective, time effective - just really effective to be frank.

Our question would be, why wouldn’t you build with timber?

  • Bah HumBUG…

Detailed correctly, timber can be naturally rodent proof and fire resistant. A building can be designed and built in timber to resist Mother Nature’s angry days, and deflect even the most undesirable of her makings. It’s all in the detailing, and that’s where we come in.

Come speak to us and lets take your project to the next level.
